What day is it? Peeking out of the editing cave . . .

Yikes! I’m deep in the editing cave, fresh out of the flu cave, and it’s a three-day weekend . . . so I had no idea what day it was.

I totally forgot it was my day to blog!

So, since I’m just a teensy bit behind the curve, I decided to give you a peek at what I’m doing. This . . .

developmental edits

I received my developmental edits from my editor and I’m fixing the big picture issues on my book. This means switching scenes around, adding and deleting scenes, tightening up the theme and storylines.  I love this stage  because it is all about execution – making it happen. I read the revision notes, talked to my editor on the phone to make sure we are on the same page and got started.

In the picture the yellow sticky notes are the scenes from the book – on each card I give a short description of the scene and the POV character. The Blue stickies are big picture character and plot notes I need to apply to every scene. Tthe dark pink are things to be added or deleted from that scene and the light pink are entirely new scenes.

I’m lucky to have an editor who always has a fresh, fun eye on my work and even if I don’t do exactly what she says – it always gets my creative juices flowing. Thanks Alethea!

Back to the cave!
